Abstract
Contacts between the Levant and the western half of the Mediterranean have been proven. Cobalt blue glass and silver provide clues to the trade routes. Author contends that cobalt blue glass had originated as slag that had been accidentally produced from the smelting of a rich native silver and associated ores, present in a pure quartz gangue, with related fluxes of fluorite and apatite. Arsenic, bismuth, and cobalt are found at very few sites throughout the world. Schneeberg, Saxony, is one such place where these elements are found naturally together. Discussion focuses on the type of ores present at different sites and where artifacts with compositions that match these ore sources have been found. -- AATA
