Abstract
The problems relating to the conservation of ethnographic objects of non-western cultures are discussed. These problems are to be attributed to different circumstances in the countries/places of origin, such as climate, temperature, humidity, culture and customs. A definition of ethnoconservation is given. The present education and training facilities in the Netherlands are not well geared to ethnoconservation. Suggestions are given to improve or enhance these facilities. Curators should get more insight into conservation and restoration techniques. The author pleads for a centre of knowledge , a central facility or workshop where all questions or treatments can be referred to, and for the setting up of a working group where the above suggestions and problems can be discussed and dealt with.
