Abstract
Electrolytic restoration of bronzes was first started in India by the Conservation Laboratory of the Government Museum, Madras, as early as 1930 especially for large statues. These bronzes were acquired from various treasures troves and range from 3 to 3 1/2 feet high. The equipment designed by this laboratory is described in detail. A survey of bronzes treated from 1946 to date has been made. On the basis of a random survey of the treated bronzes, it has been found that only 10% showed recurrence of the corrosion. The importance of washing the bronzes after treatment is highlighted, so as to avoid recurrence of the problem of corrosion. -- AATA
