Although lyctids, bostrichids and anobiids are considered the most important pests of wood, beetles in other families (Dermestidae, Ostomidae and Ptinidae) have been reported damaging such material. Some cases are discussed, and one is described in more detail from the USA. A kitchen cutting board and associated cabinetry that appeared superficially to have been damaged by anobiids were examined. The stored product ptinid <i>Sphaericus gibboides</i> was found to be responsible, and the damage it caused is described. -- AATA
