Studies on four tropical timbers and a variety of wood-based panels showed that resistance to fire was greater where density and water retention were higher. Splitting increased the rate of combustion. Particleboards showed good resistance to fire, while plywood and blockboard reacted in a similar way to a highly fissile wood. -- AATA
