Lamination is a repair process for paper with great possibilities, and it is to be hoped that the uncertainties at present attending its use will in due course be resolved. Special circumstances--a humid climate, insect pests, the high cost of skilled craftsmen, or a vast holding of decayed paper documents-- may induce some archivists to take a risk for the sake of immediate results which are questionable. Lamination (even if guaranteed permanent and harmless) still offers only a partial solution.
