Abstract
Raphael's Madonna in the Meadow painted in 1505/06 in Florence is the first of the master's full length Madonnas. The paper presents some art-historical aspects connected with scientific research undertaken with the help of an Infrared-Vidicon system. The non visible underdrawings are discussed in connection with the still preserved drawings by Raphael.
