Abstract
A restoration program for polychrome wood imagery has been in progress in the Chiloé Archipelago since 1994. The program includes the development of a participative strategy which, when planning and implementing activities, considers the so-called other person's point of view, i.e. the signification perspective of the Chiloé people regarding their religious images, under whose protection they have found safety for centuries. In addition to restoring the Chiloé heritage, the program has recovered sociocultural aspects that are essential to the appropriate functioning of Chiloé communities subject to the impact of modern times: social restoration, a concept of change in the idea of restoration.
