The article describes the experience of an internship in Fundación Tarea, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The restoration process applied to a portrait of Juan Facundo Quiroga - the Rioja Province caudillo - painted by Alfonso Fermepin in 1836 is explained. The portrait showed numerous interventions and retouches. The treatment gave the intern practical knowledge of a variety of techniques and materials, while allowing her to learn more about the different possibilities available when restoring paintings mounted on easels.
