Abstract
By analyzing a considerable number of Coptic textiles, the authors discovered the technology of the crossing of warp threads in certain Coptic tapestries, notably those with a warp of simple linen threads. The shedding apparatus consisted of only a heddle rod and a shed rod (rouleau toile, RT). When a Coptic weaver wished to weave an area of tapestry, he inserted a second shed rod (rouleau louisine, RL) to achieve the weft-faced tapestry weave with paired warps common to Coptic textiles.
