Abstract
The author, who is the curator of costumes and textiles at LACMA, talks informally about his professional development and the role Pat Reeves played in it, namely how their chance meetings at the Abegg Foundation in Switzerland, and later at the New York City Fashion Institute of Technology, led to his accepting his present position at LACMA. The title of his paper refers to their differing opinions on the use of adhesive for the conservation and restoration of historic textiles. He raises the question of his responsibility to the collections and comments on the recent important exhibition, An Elegant Art: Fashion and Fantasy in the 18th Century. -- AATA
