New equipment is described which allows precise location of the x-ray source under the portion of interest of a painting undergoing radiography. It utilizes an electromagnetic wave transmitter placed on the painting and four sensors on the movable carriage containing the x-ray tube which process the signal and indicate, by an LED display, the necessary movements of the carriage.
