Abstract
In this study, the provenance of 120 amphora sherds - predominantly of type Dr. 2-4 - from Swiss excavations was to be determined. This aim in View, sherds from 11 production sites in Italy were characterized chemically and petrographically. A petrological method for differentiating these reference groups is proposed and application to the Swiss sherds is shown.
