The graphic works of G. P. Melchiori show the influence of his master, C. Maratti, particularly in the characteristic method of sketching the composition freely in black pencil first, and then executing the single figures, first nude and then clothed in red and black pencil on blue paper. This study presents only drawings pertaining to secure works by Melchiori: the early S. Martial, 1694, in the Cathedral of Colle Valdelsa; S. Andrea Corsini (S. Maria in Traspontina, Rome); SS. John and Paul, his presentation piece given to the Accademia di S. Luca, Rome, on the occasion of his acceptance into the academy, 1707; and the oval Fzekiel, 1716-18, part of the decoration of the nave of S. Giovanni in Laterano, Rome, the most important decorative cycle commissioned at that time in Rome by Clement XI. -- AATA
