Abstract
Training the staff of Chilean museums working in the cultural heritage conservation area has been a priority item in the agenda of the CNCR since 1988, when a Training Program in Preventive Conservation for professionals, technicians and supporting workers in charge of heritage collections was created. At least one person in each Chilean museum has been trained in preventive conservation, for a total of 217 trained staff. In order to design new training strategies a scientific tool was applied to assess the current condition of collections which allowed to identify significant progress in certain aspects associated with collection conservation. The advancement and problems detected are analyzed, while new actions are proposed.
