Abstract
The accentuated destruction of silk fabrics from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is essentially due to the weighting of the silk yarns or fabrics by dyers. After the listing of chemical compounds used in the weighting of silks, the behavior of iron-weighted silks, tannin-weighted silks, tin-weighted silks is described. Proposals for treatment and conservation of weighted and damaged silks are made. -- ICCROM
