A mass of tissues in a bladder-sealed glass jar from the collection of John Hunter (17281793) preserved in aqueous solution of alcohol ±35%. Treatment consisted of washing in deionized water followed by 2% sodium orthophosphate (aqueous). The tissue was revealed to be part of accelenterate (like a coral or sea anemone) partially injected with a red dye which, when examined by qualitative emission spectroscopy, was found to contain mercury with traces of lead, copper and zinc.
