Hand-made wire can be classified as hammered, block-twisted, strip-twisted, and stripdrawn; the present note concerns block-twisted wire. Such wire exhibits helical creases derived from concavities that develop from the original flat faces during the twisting process. Starting from machine-made square-section wire, four such creases are obtained; but when the starting wire is hand-made, only two creases are seen in a cross section. This happens because handmade starting material is never perfectly square in cross section, and only two of the flat sides usually develop concavities.
