Abstract
Two samples of gypsum crystals of Mediterranean (Italy) and Arabian (India) sea origins, have been dated using TL and ESR techniques. The methodologies followed in both the techniques are exactly analogous; however, a radiation-related, interference-free ESR signal (at g ~ 2.00) could be found only in the case of the Indian sample. The TL dating peaks in both the types of crystals corresponded to 350°C with an activation energy of 2.38 ev. The estimated trap life time is about 1014 years. No anomalous fading was detected. While the TL technique gave an age estimate of about 70, 000 years, the ESR gave an estimate of about 45,000 years for the Indian sample. The Mediterranean sample gave a TL age of about 2 m. yrs.
