Abstract
Study of various adhesives (poly(vinyl acetate), poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(vinyl butyral), cellulose ethers, hydrolyzed wheat starch) for possible use in the consolidation of aged anddegraded silks. Authors rejected poly(vinyl acetates), poly(vinyl alcohols), poly(vinyl butyrals), and hydroxyethylcellulose, but found the methyl celluloses to be useful for the consolidation of textiles which are sensitive to water, and starch to be the best consolidant for non-water sensitive silks. See 21-1334 for reference to entire proceedings. -- AATA
