Abstract
Accelerated ageing in Xenotest was conducted on vegetable, semi-chrome, chrome and chrome-retan leathers to understand the effects of such ageing - exposure to light (equivalent to sun's light), temperature, humidity and rain during a period of 180 hours equivalent to 75 days. The assessment of the effects of such weathering is carried out through testing/analysis of the exposed leathers for their physical and chemical characteristics. The 'atmospheres' chosen for the present studies are (i) 'Hot' climate: 50°C; 30per thousand Relative Humidity and (ii) 'Humid' climate: 27°C; 95per thousand Relative Humidity with identically intermittant simulated 'rain' in both the cases of ageing conditions. Better conditions of storage of leathers and articles of leathers is suggested.
