Folk museum collections are a source of considerable problems, since such artifacts invariably consist of many different materials, which through usage are often in poor condition. In this report, the problems of the deterioration and conservation of folk materials are discussed with special emphasis on iron and iron composite artifacts used as fishing implements and for salt-making. The conservation process includes dirt-and stain removal, desalination, coating, anti-corrosion treatments, and consolidation of fragile components. Special emphasis is placed on the problem of conserving iron jointed to organic materials.
