Abstract
Most of the museums or cultural centers in the Pacific Islands of Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia are small, one or two person operations in which air conditioning is impractical. High temperatures and relative humidity in this region present challenges for museum display and storage. Standard recommendations for temperature and relative humidity may not be applicable. Design and insulation can often provide a reasonably stable environment. It is recommended that a manual be prepared on Environmental Control for Cultural Institutions by the use of Appropriate Design and Alternative Technology.
