A metallurgical investigation was performed on an iron bloom and associated finds recovered in 1981 from a 16th century site in the canadian artic. Examinations included macroscopic and microscopic examination, microhardness measurements, hardness testing, chemical analysis, x-ray diffraction and radiocabron dating. Aims were to identify and characterize the material, examine and interpret its structure and composition, determine its method of manufacture and provide invormation on the origin of the artifacts. It was concluded the blooms were not 16th century but were left on the site by earlier visitors perhaps norse voyagers. Appendices, tables, photomicrographs, references.
