Abstract
A 19th century American (New York) sideboard table, stylistically attributed to Duncan Phyfe, combines regional influences with those of the English regency period. The table composed of several woods (poplar, maple, mahogany, pine and rosewood), and having gilded details, required treatment of both the substrates and the surface coatings. Inlays were missing and the marble top was broken. Structural repairs to the wood cleaning of the brass and ormolu mounts, and repair of the gilding and paintings as well as the marble top are described. -- ICCROM
