Copious clear color macrophotographs throughout the book detail the state of the picture before and after treatment. The forty-eight page section on the restoration discusses Botticelli's technique for the <i>Primavera</i>, reviews Cennino's theories, and provides many observations about visual changes. Solvents or consolidants used are not detailed although it is mentioned that the solvent was dispersed in a wax emulsion. Compensation decisions, such as certain areas of intentionally visible inpainting, the intentionally unrestored carmine drapery on Venus's head and shoulders, and areas of remnant, possibly-original varnish are listed.
