Abstract
This paper reports a scanning electron microscope examination of the surface topographies of copper-benzotriazolate (CuBTA) films produced on copper oxide from slightly acidic solutions containing benzotriazole. On relatively thin (less than 200A) Cu2O films the CuBTA crystallites are larger and possibly less protective than those formed on thicker oxide films. Generally it is found that the thicker the oxide film the finer and more dense the CuBTA crystallites. The crystallographic orientation of the substrate copper crystal faces is thought to be less important. The thickness of the underlying Cu2O and of the CuBTA films were estimated from infrared multiple reflection-absorption spectra. -- AATA
