Abstract
An archaeological investigation of ancient Greek water cisterns in Laurion is presented. A lining for water proofing the cisterns has been shown to be composed of SiO2 5.38, CaO 5.86, ZnO 6.28, Fe2O3 5.35, MgO 4.25, MnO 18.56, A12O3 5.23, and PbO 29.27%, as well as traces of PbCO3 and Pb4SiO4. The composition of the mortar beneath the lining is composed of SiO2 20-30, CaO 26-34, K2O + Na2O 0.5-1, Fe2O3 3-7, MgO 2-6, and A12O3 2-5%, as well as traces of MnO. -- AATA
