An iron cash box (trunk) was disassembled and cleaned, partially mechanically and partially electrolytically. It was protected from further rusting with a coating of Paraloid B72. After the lock with its 16-key bolt was reassembled it was fully functional. A detailed discussion is provided of the various aspects of metal restoration and conservation. -- AATA
