Abstract
The archaeological and metallurgical evidence on early tin mining and smelting in South Africa is reviewed. Analyses of samples of tin ore, slag, and ingots are reported. A small experimental tin-smelting furnace is described which was constructed and worked according to African iron age technology. -- AATA
