Abstract
This note discusses seal 89812 in the British Museum, argued to date to the Akkadian period. The scene depicted on the seal is argued to represent the slaying of Tiamat by Marduk, a story told in the Enûma elis. If both the interpretation of the seal and the suggested chronological attribution are correct, then this is the earliest known depiction of the scene.
