Abstract
A late Bronze Age phtanite touchstone, dating from the 8th-7th century BC, was excavated in France. Associated gold artifacts indicate a workshop site. Four other stone tools from other regions of France were examined as comparisons, along with similar shaped prehistoric tools from other areas. The artifact is confirmed as being one of the oldest known touchstones used for gold assay in Europe. -- AATA
