This experiment was started by W. W. Fletcher of the British Glass Industry Research Association on 6 October 1970. In 1986, it will be entering a stage when its future should be reconsidered. Nine types of glass samples were buried in a special limestone mound in 20 groups at 10 locations (A to J) and at two levels, ground level and mid-mound level, so that they could be retrieved after periods of time arranged on a binary scale: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, and 512 years. The next planned opening of the mound will be in October, 1986. -- AATA
