Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the techniques and materials employed by Blake, and compares them with traditional methods of early 19th-century watercolor painting. It covers the technical analysis of the pigments on Blake's palette, including examination with a polarizing microscope, a scanning electron microscope with an attached energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometer, ultraviolet study of the paintings, and microchemical tests of a few isolated samples. -- AATA
