Abstract
This paper describes the first application of neutron activation analysis to the study of the composition of Chinese bronzes in Taiwan. Because the study is primarily to investigate the feasibility of neutron activation analysis, the emphasis is on the techniques of irradiation, counting, and reduction of gamma spectra. Equations are given for determining the number of target nuclides based on counts in a sample and a standard. The results definitely indicate that neutron activation analysis is feasible, with determined concentrations of 2 elements (copper and tin) in bronzes agreeing with concentrations determined by wet chemical techniques. Neutron activation analysis has a great advantage over wet chemical techniques in that smaller samples are required and a much greater number of elements can be determined simultaneously.
