During the last decade there has been a considerable increase in the erosion of natural stone sculptures. The restoration often raises the question whether to leave the damaged parts where they are or to replace them by casts or copies made of natural stone. A number of useful theories and suggestions on practical execution are given. There is a comprehensive bibliography of German literature on the topic of erosion and preservation of stone. -- AATA
