Some precautions to be observed in sample preparation for examination with an SEM are suggested. In using acid reagents, distilled water, etc. it was observed that these could produce residues readily detectable in the SEM, easily mistaken for material from an object being examined. Wax stub tubes are recommended, together with the monitoring of reagents used in specimen preparation. -- AATA
