During the past few years, in cooperation with the Institute für Denk malpflege, scientists of the State Museum for Mineralogy and Geology examined the type and origin of stones used in endangered monuments at Dresden, as well as damages and causes. In 1972, the National Council of the,DDR formed a temporary work group for the conservation of stone, to find new methods for the long-term protection of endangered objects. As a first priority the documentation of all stone conservation on objects under the care of monument curatorship in the DDR was undertaken. Further examinations are planned concerning the depth of penetration of artificial resin solutions into sandstones and limestones, examinations of the kind of deposits of the resin on the individual mineral particles, and penetration tests.
