Abstract
Studies the technology and history of 18th-century French ware through microstructure and microchemical analyses. Scanning electron microscopy, and x-ray analyses were used. French soft-paste compositions were found to have low alumina and high lime content, combined with plastic clays of Argenteuil. In regions outside of Paris, where the highly plastic limey clays were less available, compositional changes occurred rapidly. -- AATA
