Abstract
Studies rock salt used as an additive in shell-tempered clay bodies in order to determine whether design and technological advances in pottery manufacture occurred due to a technologically based process or to cultural interaction and/or availability of materials. The following tests were performed on a simulated Mississippian shell-tempered clay body: bulk characteristic tests, dilatometric analysis of sintering, thermogravimetry, and microscopic analysis. -- AATA
