Abstract
A severely damaged Chinese Ming dynasty red lacquer stationery box offered a rare opportunity to study the original construction materials and techniques. Previous restoration efforts had been extensive but largely cosmetic and therefore ineffective in stabilizing the box. The present treatment emphasized reversible, synthetic materials for both structural repair and an attractive appearance. -- AATA
