In order to prevent the loss of pigment during mounting of Japanesestyle paintings, acrylic resin has been effectively applied to the pigment layer prior to the conventional mounting treatment. The portions of thick multi-layered pigments on sliding door paintings have been successfully prevented from flaking by using poly(vinyl alcohol) (which is water soluble and has an affinity to the glue present in the paint layer.) -- AATA
