White terra-cotta statuettes have been produced by Gallic potter workhops between the first and the third centuries A.D. These figurines represent various subjects including divinities, human beings, and animals. This very diversified production has been widely diffused through the Roman Occident. The study of cultural and commercial exchanges throughout Roman Gaul has been undertaken using chemical analysis to determine the provenance of these statuettes. The use of neutron activation whose special interest for analysis of kaolin-type clays is discussed. Statuettes, molds, and wasters coming from archaeological excavations of three workshops of Central France have been analyzed; Toulon-sur-Allier, Saint-Bonnet, and Thiel-sur-Acolin. Results dealing with the possibility of characterization and differentiation of these workshops are presented. -- AATA
