In order to study the air in which screen and panel paintings are placed, the concentration of sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides in the air inside and outside various kinds of buildings including the <i>Shoinzukuri-type was measured by the alkali filter paper method. Corrosion tests of metal (copper and silver) sheets were also carried out by exposing the sheets indoors and outdoors, and the effect ofthe pollutants on cultural properties was evaluated. -- AATA
