Abstract
Worcester Museum's conservation laboratory. It was discovered that the artist had painted on a support of unprimed linen fabric which had been pasted on a cotton twill fabric at the time of painting. (The cotton layerhad previously been considered to be a lining.) The outlines of the figures appear strongly not only on the reverse of the linen but also on the cotton. Durand's possible use of a stencil is discussed. Photographs show each layer, recto and verso. The application of paint and Durand's tech-niques are discussed in detail. H.M.P. -- AATA
