Abstract
Several kinds of decay threaten the leather of bookbindings in libraries. The causes of the decay were analyzed, and a technique for preservation was developed which includes the cleaning of the leather, the analysis of the leather, the prevention of the destructive action of iron and copper ions, the neutralization of acid compounds, and the impregnation of the leather.
