Abstract
The above-named ornamented cave located in the northeastern part of the state of Piaui, Brazil, was studied by stratigraphic image analysis of the paintings and by physical and chemical analyses. Results revealed that the pigments had been applied directly on the rock i.e., without prior preparation. The pigment layers were thin and generally overlaid with fine deposits. These are complex and varied and indicate more or less clearly the evolution of the cave's surface. The heterogeneous character of the deposits could be a potential source of disarray of the surfaces with painted drawings.
