(A translation of the article, Nettoyage et dégagement des agrafes au Musée National de Céramique à Sèvres in <i>Studies in Conservation</i>, 33 (1988) pp. 23-28.) Staples used in ceramic repair become an integral part of the history of the object and must be conserved in situ or removed, stabilized, and replaced during treatment. A method, developed by Électricité de France and the Musée National de Céramique, which will stabilize a staple and make it easily removable while reducing the risk of damaging the object is discussed. Slight polarization accompanied by an effervescent evolution at the surface of the staple allows it to be freed of corrosion products and from the fill material. (See also <i>AATA</i> <b>25-2242</b>.)
