Abstract
Cellulose can be isolated from commercial, highly purified wood pulps by extraction of the main contaminants, mannan and xylan, with cold sodium hydroxide solution of optimum concentration followed by washing first with fresh alkali to prevent re- precipitation of hemicellulose on dilution and then thoroughly with distilled water.
