Abstract
Thermoluminescence (TL) in pottery is due to traces of radioactive elements that bombard other constituents of the clays and raise electrons to metastable levels representative of the accumulated radiation and hence of the time elapsed since the original firing. Recently fired ceramic ware should show no TL. Describes apparatus and techniques to conduct TL.
